This trail travels through the forest with a picturesque clearwater stream and waterfall, within walking distance of downtown Sitka. Indian River is as good a low-elevation, forest-and-stream hike as there is in Southeast. The small river is a beautiful clear-water stream full of rocky riffles, deep green pools, and bouldery rapids. The hike features several crossings of forks of the river and its tributaries, all over log bridges.

Lovely cool hike on a beautiful, warm day along the river. We were on a cruise ship so only had time to go about halfway. Saw only one other person the entire hike. Excellent trail with many boardwalks and bridges all in great shape. And we saw many, many bald eagles along the river. Strongly recommned it to anyone on a cruise ship that wants to get away from the crowds for a while.
