Three Lakes and Ideal Cove

Three Lakes and Ideal Cove Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The trails link three lakes, named after sandhill cranes, each equipped with a picnic table, a rowboat, and a trail shelter, which overlooks the Frederick Sound. The Three Lakes trails connect Sand, Hill, and Crane Lakes and the smaller Shelter Lake via three trailheads and 4.5 miles of boardwalk in a figure-eight loop.

The three larger lakes get their names from the sandhill cranes that stop here on their migrations. The Ideal Cove Trail, a Civilian Conservation Corps trail first cleared in the 1930s and have since rebuilt, leading down Hill Creek to the coast of Frederick Sound."
