Nancy Lake Canoe Trails Professional Review and Guide
"Take a picnic lunch to a blue-green alpine lake at the base of precipitous peaks and spires. The short walk is just right for families with children, but don’t overlook this easy hike to Dogsled Pass as an entrance to outstanding, if more-difficult, wilderness hiking deep into the Talkeetna Mountains."
--Helen D. Nienhueser & John Wolfe Jr., 55 Ways to the Wilderness in Southcentral Alaska (The Mountaineers Books).
We went counterclockwise via Milo Lake to get the longest amount of portaging out of the way. It was a beautiful trip. We did it in one day which took 6 hours. I would recommend taking it slower and camping out overnight. It is quite an ordeal portaging through the land between lakes, but worth it. Easy canoeing or kayaking on the lakes.
We rented canoes at Tippiecanoe for $35 all day. For $25 we could have got a canoe for 8 hours. We should have done this, as we finished in about 7 1/2 hours, oh well...The canoeing was very easy and extremley beautiful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the portaging. Four portages were over a quarter mile and it was very difficult for my wife, who is rather petit. All in all though I highly recomend this trip.
