Bird Ridge Professional Review and Guide
"This is the classic spring conditioning hike, snow-free earlier than many other places because of its southern exposure. The earliest spring flowers can be found here too. Take a picnic lunch, climb as high as you like, stretch out on the ground, and enjoy the warm sunshine and rich smell of earth—all while surrounding mountains remain cloaked in white. The hike is steep but worth the effort because of its sweeping view of fjord-like Turnagain Arm."
--Helen D. Nienhueser & John Wolfe Jr., 55 Ways to the Wilderness in Southcentral Alaska (The Mountaineers Books).
Great hike to start the season. Brutally steep at first, but with extremely rewarding views. Some traffic noise for the first 1/3 of trail. Watch out for bears!
