A maintained trail traveling by lakes with spawning salmon (and other ?sh), a historic mine, and two cabins. The McKinley Lake hike can be a wet one, but if you want to spend the night, there is a dry cabin waiting for you at the lake. There is also a cabin just off the road, only 250 feet from the trailhead; both are available through the Forest Service reservation-and-fee system (www.reserveusa.com or 877-444-6777). Campsites are very limited.
