The easy-to-follow Ptarmigan Valley Trail guides you through forested slopes and eventually to open alpine tundra in the Ptarmigan Valley. It starts out relatively steep and gradually climbs until you hit the tundra above the tree line. The area provides excellent habitat for moose and numerous bird species including the willow ptarmigan. A variety of trail users are likely to be enjoying this multiuse trail throughout the year; however, mountain bikes are not allowed. There are good views of Knik Arm and the Alaskan Range along the way, with extraordinary views from the tundra.
