Perhaps one of the most popular trails in the summer for good reasons: close to town, numerous options for a variety of hiking abilities with access to alpine tundra, spectacular views of mountains, Cook Inlet, and the city. On summer weekends and evenings after work, scores of Anchorage residents visit the Glen Alps entrance to Chugach State Park for short walks, berry picking, or the hike to the top of Flattop. The trail to Flattop, a high, level summit in the first tier of peaks in the Chugach Mountains, is a very popular hike.

This trail is straight forward until the final ascent, which requires a little care. The top provides great views out to Anchorage and beyond. You also get a view of some of the other local surrounding mountains near Anchorage. The trail is fairly quick to complete and is easily accessible from Anchorage. Note, you will need to pay a $5 fee to park your car at the road end.

Some beatiful scenery of the Anchorage area. It has easy access which is nice, but this allows for lots of visitors. A woderful place to watch the sunset or rise. Definitely a place to visit before you leave.

We visited so many places in Alaska and all were breath taking. The views are just spectacular. There are many places you can hike and even pick berries.
