Depending on your point of view, Boulder Lake is either one of the best or one of the worst destinations in the Trinity Alps. If you like maximum scenery for minimum effort, this is your spot. If, on the other hand, you cherish solitude more than an easy stroll, keep on walking. (Past Boulder Lake you find small and uncrowded Found and Tapie lakes, and farther still the lonely meadows of Poison Canyon). Highlights: This short hike delivers maximum scenery for minimum effort, making it one of the Alps’ busiest trails; great route for families with young children and other hikers who want an easy outing.

Great first trek for our family. We had grandpa, husband, wife, aunt, 2 cousins, and a 5 year old. There were many other families with children also. It is difficult to circumnavigate Big Boulder Lake. There are neat flesh-eating plants like balloons in the meadow near the outlet. Cousin lost a flip flop in the muck in Big Boulder Lake. Little Boulder Lake is much cleaner for swimming.
