The Seven Lakes Trail (Trail 1125) to Seven Lakes starts on the gentle Red Elephant Nature Trail, passing through lodgepole, spruce, and fir forest. Turning west, it climbs gently to the Mount Zirkel Wilderness boundary near Big Creek Falls. The trail wanders along Big Creek, then climbs a very steep section with many switchbacks. Excellent views of Big Creek Lakes can be seen from several viewpoints. The next section goes through old-growth forest and into flower-filled meadows just below Seven Lakes. The lakes are in a high, open area with views of Red Elephant Mountain and the Continental Divide. The lakes are a peaceful backpacking destination.
