Kids and caves go together like cookies and milk. Coginchaug Cave, along the Mattabesett Trail, rises 30 feet high and stretches more than 50 feet along the base of a cliff. It is said to have provided shelter to Native Americans long ago. One of the children might even come across an old Native American tool here; other hikers have. Take this relatively short, easy walk to the cave on an overcast day, saving sunnier days for hikes that promise long-range views.
