To appreciate the Sleeping Giant, you must view him from a distance. If you look north from New Haven harbor, you’ll see him lying on his back with his head to the west and his feet facing east. According to one Native American legend, the Sleeping Giant is the spirit Hobbamock, who, after causing the Connecticut River to change course, became the victim of a spell cast by another spirit that put him to sleep forever. Encourage your kids to make up their own versions of the legend!
