Boom Lake is an easy 5.1 km-long hike, with only 185 m height gain. At the eastern end of the tarn, drift logs caught on a shallow rockshelf resemble a logger’s boom, giving the lake its name. From the lake, Boom, Quadra, and Bident mountains dominate the scenery. I prefer the views near the south end of the lake, with the “boom” in sight. From the end of the trail, you can continue along the shore in either direction; there are signs of old trails (the trail west was formerly used to go to Consolation Pass), but they are now in poor condition. To see the “boom” you have to walk a short ways east (left when you face the lake) near the lakeshore, a distance you can go with minimal annoyance. The lake is reported to have good cutthroat fishing in early summer. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
