This short nature trail takes you through a stand of aspens, past a group of ancient Douglas firs with their corrugated bark, to a pleasant viewpoint. The grade is easy-to-moderate as far as the hiking sign and rest bench where the man-made trail ends. From there, an animal path continues upslope, leading very steeply to scenic slopes 200 m above the trailhead. A less obvious animal route continues up the crest of a minor ridge, with many scenic vantage points. As you go higher, however, the tree cover increases and openings with views become infrequent. There is no water on the way; if you are tempted to follow the animal path, you will want to carry a supply. If you go before July, watch for parasitic ticks.
