Starting from a parking lot high above Banff, the trail to the summit of Stoney Squaw Mountain has a surprising height gain. The grade is easy-to-moderate. This short walk is in trees most of the way. Many hikers stop at the false summit at the end of the obvious trail from where there are good views of the valley, the Fairholme Range, Cascade Mountain, and Mt. Rundle. The true summit of Stoney Squaw is hidden in trees 50 m to the west (left if you are looking at Cascade Mountain). Twenty metres beyond this point, an old cairn marks an opening with views to the west. Remember to bring water; there is none on the trail. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
