Easy hiking on wide trails. This low elevation amble through mixed forest has modest views and gentle walking. The trail system in this area between the West Castle and Carbondale rivers is extensive and bewildering to any hiker. The trails normally host motorized visitors. Thankfully, the GDT follows a trunk trail that is easy to navigate. According to the Castle Access Management Plan, a solid red diamond indicates a trail that is open for motorized vehicle use all year long. If the red diamond has a black bar in the centre, the trail is only for summer use while a white bar designates winter use. From the Castle Mountain Ski Resort to Coleman, the GDT follows nearly 50 km of motorized trails. It is an enjoyable route if there are no “quads” or dirt bikes filling the valley with their menacing sounds and exhaust. The best days to schedule this part of the route are mid-week when all the vehicles are quietly rusting at home. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
