The gable end of this ridge rises enticingly above a section of highway known as Windy Point. Snow free for much of the year, it makes an ideal conditioning hike in spring just after the road opens. Prior to a widening of the road in the 1930s, motoring around the point in Model-T Fords used to be a hairy business, particularly during winter chinooks when seepages spread ice all over the track. Ruts would be cut in the ice to prevent cars sliding over the edge into the Sheep River. You can't blame the passengers who got out and walked.
