The incredible zigzagging exploration road up Head Creek dates back to the early 1960s when gypsum was discovered on a mountain top southeast of Patterson's Peak at GR 655936. Found and staked by V. Hume and S. Mason of Turner Valley, the gypsum's generally poor quality made economic development unlikely. Left with the legacy of a road, today's hikers will find this a surprisingly easy hike to a summit.
