Since the second edition the creek's name has reverted officially to Flat from Trap, even though the name Trap first appeared on Palliser's map of 1863 and is still retained on present topo maps. Both names are in local use, so please yourself. Trap or Flat is a truly lovely valley, fairly quiet these days owing to the road closure. Unless you've got a bike, use route #260. Backpackers should make time to delve into the valley's more secretive places. A week should just about do it. Consideration: If coming in from Grass Pass or going farther into the upper valley or up Head Creek, wait until mid summer when the river has quietened down.
