Some might consider the original highway along the east bank of Etherington Creek as "wasting your time in the Canadian Rockies". Personally, after the stress of being in a city all week, I find this easy forest trail just the tonic. One late fall we kicked aspen leaves about and laughed at the antics of five Blue grouse. Ideally, walk south to north in the downhill direction and have a vehicle at both ends. One problem to doing the whole trail is that you have to wade Etherington Creek at the north end. Still, on a hot day this may be just what you're yearning for. Alternatively, traverse Hell's Ridge which encloses the valley to the east, and return to your starting point via the old road (or vice versa). Or use it as a side trip to a grassy hilltop with a great view.
