A pleasant stroll along the east shore of Lower Kananaskis Lake Reservoir. Just don't come in early summer when low water reveals the original lake surrounded by unattractive mud flats. Interestingly, the lake's first name was Thorpe, after a director of Wisconsin's Eau Claire Logging Company who were sizing up the timber berths back in 1883. From Canyon Dam area the trail passes through a walk-in picnic area to the promontory marking the boundary of this sheltered backwater. Turn the corner and travel south along the lakeshore in the pines, making forays now and then to the waterline (however far that is) for rather splendid views of Mts. Fox, Foch, Sarrail and Indefatigable.
