This extremely popular trail takes you to a superlative viewpoint on the open ridge east of Mt. John Laurie, more usually known as Yamnuska, or Yam, a derivation from its Stoney name Iyamnathka, meaning Wall of Stone. It's the ideal early season hike. Although snow still lies deep on the Front Ranges to the west, the blooming of the prairie crocus in the meadows and the drumming of the grouse in the forest tell you that spring has arrived at Yamnuska. Alas, spring also brings that unwanted hitchhiker, the wood tick, which seems particularly voracious in this area.
