This long, but relatively easy and straightforward hike offers moderate elevation gain to a broad subalpine meadow along the Bighorn River. Two picturesque waterfalls add interest to the return loop. From the trailhead choose the wide, well-gravelled path on the north side of the parking area by the equestrian trail sign. Almost immediately it begins to climb steeply through white spruce and lodgepole pine. When you reach the top of the rise you realize that you have merely completed the first of several steps that take you up to Sunkay Creek.
