This cycling route follows an old logging road to the headwaters of the beautiful and remote Castle River valley. It ends below the Castle River Divide, which marks the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park. The route follows a good dirt and gravel road, but erosion at most of the stream crossings has created some challenging riding. From the summit a trail to the east climbs up onto Avion Ridge where there are spectacular views in all directions. An option requiring a serious commitment to adventure involves crossing over the Castle River Divide to the Snowshoe trail (#116). Since biking is not permitted between the park boundary and the end of the Snowshow trail, you will have to carry or push your bike over this section. Once in the valley you can scream down the Snowshoe trail and pound the pavement to Waterton or some other suitable pick-up point.
