What an incredible ride! Long, challenging singletrack cycling trails are rare in the Rockies and this section of the Great Divide is one of the best. Once atop the ridge you can resume riding, and what a wild ride it is! Most of the trail from here to the Galena Miracle Mine is a rideable alpine roller coaster with hills to test your climbing and descending skills and some sections of exposed sidehill trail where both your nerve and your skill will be tested. The trail climbs over and traverses around four minor summits along this ridge, all are at or near treeline. Alpine meadows, larches and wind-blown pines frame views of peaks and valleys extending in every direction. Best of all is the massive wall of the Continental Divide looming above the meadows ahead. The trail winds its way off the ridge and into flower-filled meadows that cling below the cliffs of the High Rock Range. It makes a couple of excursions into the forest, then wanders past an alpine tarn and crosses a steep stream gully as it approaches the abandoned Galena Miracle Mine. Mine timbers and the remains of a cog railway are strewn down a scree slope below the mine shaft. Turn the corner and you’re on a wind-blasted ridge high above the Oldman Valley. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States.
