Upper Otay Reservoir was chosen as the original site in the western United States to receive Florida largemouth bass and has since become the source of virtually all Florida bass found west of the Mississippi River. In addition to bass, the California Department of Fish & Game has recently stocked trout in the reservoir, and rainbows over five pounds have already been caught.
