This could be one of the best fisheries in the entire state! It’s loaded with spotted and largemouth bass, trout, and crappie. The place is immense, with more than 365 miles of shoreline and 29,000 acres of surface water covering four huge river canyons. It’s hard to imagine the magnitude of all this habitat for fly fishing but, hey, it works just fine! Shasta is all about steep banks, deep banks, small coves, rocky points, and submerged timber. It’s the perfect environment for healthy populations of bass and trout. Types of Fish: Smallmouth, spotted, and largemouth bass; rainbow and brown trout, crappie, and panfish. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
