The fly fishing community recognizes “the Sac” from Lake Shasta to Sacramento as the “lower river.” In this section, we target the prime territory from Redding to Red Bluff, a stretch offering big water and big fish. The wide and sweeping river runs over huge gravel bars and shallow riffles and through deep pools. Types of Fish: King salmon (chinook), steelhead, rainbow trout, shad, and striped bass. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
