This area has it all: expansive east and west beaches, outstanding inshore and offshore fishing and what many consider to be the best rooster fishing area in all Baja. All this fly fishing is accessible on foot or from a panga. For offshore action, hire a panga or cruiser and you can be fishing in about 20 minutes. A 1,000' deep trench runs between Isla Cerralvo and the shore, through which all bluewater species travel on their migration to and from the Sea of Cortez. Near the south tip of the island a shelf extends 3/4 of a mile in the Sea of Cortez. You never know what fish are under the diving birds here. Some are large resident seabass, tuna, skipjack, wahoo, and even dorado and marlin on the edges of the reef. Types of Fish: Shore: Sandy beach east and west around point to lighthouse, rooster, jacks, ladyfish, giant needlefish, pompano, sierra. Point area - rockfish. Inshore: Dorado, roosterfish, bonita, skipjack, sierra, jacks, pompano, triggerfish, giant needlefish. Offshore: All major bluewater species possible. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States.
