This area, considered the heart of the East Cape region, is only 45 minutes from the Los Cabos airport — most angler’s point of arrival in southern Baja. The area offers a multitude of fly fishing options. With 10 miles of accessible beaches and a very deep marine drop-off a few miles off shore (the 100 fathom curve), the Buena Vista & Los Barriles area is one of Baja’s most attractive fly fishing destinations. Long sandy stretches of beach are interspersed with rocky points that are home to a variety of gamefish. Whether fishing the gray light before the sun comes up, sight casting midday, or fishing afternoons until the sun goes down, it’s hard to find an area that offers so much fly fishing. Types of Fish: Shore: Roosterfish swim within 20' of shore along with jacks, ladyfish, pargo, giant needlefish, cabrilla, triggerfish, pompano, sierra, shaped cornetfish. Inshore: Dorado, rooster, bonita, skipjack, sierra, jacks, pompano, triggerfish and giant needlefish. Offshore: Marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo and dorado. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use.
