One of the most pristine places in the state, this stream has cascading falls and plunge pools offering many opportunities to fish large dry flies or nymphs. The water is almost always crystal clear, except below the Greer Lakes. It even flows well enough in drought years to sustain fish populations. This is a very nice place to hike, and the fishing almost becomes secondary. Originating from springs on Baldy Peak, the Little Colorado River ends at the Grand Canyon. The White Mountains headwaters hold brook, brown, rainbow, and the native Apache trout. Many serious fly fishers pass by this area because of the large number of bait fishers, kids, and dogs near most road pullouts. Don’t let the crowds put you off, since average Arizonans won’t usually wander more than 10' from their vehicle. Simply walk away from the road and you’ll be in great wilderness. Types of Fish: Rainbow, brook, and brown trout. eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use.
