This desert lake offers lots of diverse structures that make it a great place to fly fish. Casting a popping bug against a saguaro cactus or over flooded ocotillo is quite an experience. This lake is a short drive from Phoenix and yields large bass in the double digits. Arizona’s best-known bass lake has been written up in bass fishing magazines for years. Almost 10,000 acres in size, it has tons of shoreline and many coves and arms worth exploring. The water in the lake fluctuates with the season and agricultural demand. It’s generally clear, but if the lake begins to fill or drop rapidly it muddies up, which can affect fishing. Types of Fish: Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, crappie, and bluegills. Also carp, catfish, and some striped bass. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use.
