Most hikers come here for a 7.5-mile loop that incorporates Spruce Spring Trail and a short spur to Gallo Peak. This slightly longer route explores a wider diversity of landscapes along paths less traveled, namely Box Spring Trail, Ox Canyon Trail, and a lonely stretch of the Manzano Crest Trail. Either way you’ll witness old-growth conifer, mountain meadows, and the main attraction—the towering quartzite outcrops of Red Canyon (aka Cañon Colorado).
