The Great Basin is the name geographers have given to a vast expanse of land that covers much of Nevada and the neighboring portion of Utah. But don’t expect to see wide open country in this national park. Rising rather abruptly more than 1.5 miles above the desert floor, the mountains of Great Basin National Park cover several different life zones. There is much wildlife and great variations in vegetation. Among the most famous life forms in the park is the bristlecone pine forest. Besides mountains, Great Basin has beautiful meadows with splashes of colorful flowers, pristine lakes and even a small glacier. But the most famous feature of the park is Lehman Caves, an underground natural art gallery that’s sure to please. This eTrail explains in detail how to tour the park. In addition to a park map the details include driving tours, outdoor recreation, accommodations, campgrounds, dining, and more.
