A trip to Dinosaur National Monument is almost like visiting two parks in one. There’s an obvious physical separation caused by the lack of roads from one part of the monument to another. And the two sections also offer completely different experiences. The Utah side of the monument is Dinosaur Country. You’ll get to visit a huge sandstone cliff that housed more fossilized remains of prehistoric animals than any other place in the world. On the Colorado side is a beautiful land of deep and narrow gorges, towering cliffs and two wild rivers. The Green and Yampa Rivers, which converge in the monument at Steamboat Rock, have created some of the deepest canyons in America. The Canyon of Lodore, for example, is more than 3,000 feet deep in some places. For the more adventurous, there are few places in America that have better whitewater rafting than Dinosaur. This eTrail explains in detail how to tour the park. In addition to a park map the details include driving tours, outdoor recreation, accommodations, campgrounds, dining, and more.
