When Queen Victoria selected Ottawa as Canada’s capital in 1857, she made a shrewd—albeit unlikely—choice. Although it was then a small wilderness community called Bytown, Ottawa had a central location and was politically acceptable to both Upper and Lower Canada. Ottawa has come a long way since then. An attractive, down-to-earth, accessible city, it has great museums, natural beauty, a magnificent setting, and bountiful year-round recreation—much of it centering on the Rideau Canal, which divides the city in two. What’s more, Ottawa is the only capital city in the world with an operating farm within its downtown. No matter what time of year your family comes, you’ll find a variety of activities to keep everybody happy. Some are in Hull, just over the bridge, which is in the province of Québec (and has a different area code). This eTrail is one complete vacation written with families in mind. It’s loaded with exciting things to do, family-friendly places to lodge and dine, recommended side trips, local sources of information, and detailed travel directions. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
