This hilly, challenging ride along less traveled roads offers lovely forest and wooded area scenery, with many old homes with lots of historical character. You'll wander on backroads that the developers have not yet discovered, as you ride from the outskirts of Wilmington, Delaware (New Castle County). For the least traffic pedal early on a Saturday or Sunday morning, as some of the main two-lane roads do see heavier auto traffic during the week. The ride takes less traveled roads, therefore there are no services nor any bike shops or B&B's. The two covered bridges and the Ashland Nature Center offer scenic places to stop for a packed snack or lunch. Terrain: moderately hilly. Traffic is generally light on weekends, although during the week it can be moderate to moderately heavy on some main roads.
