Mount Carleton is the highest peak in the Maritime provinces, and, on a clear day, the views from there are excellent. When the peak and the firetower are blanketed by fog, they appear eerie. Near the “Headwaters” wilderness campground there are many signs of moose; this is their winter resting place. The trail first follows an old woods road through mixed woods. It is very rocky in parts and ascends gently. A scenic mossy creek at the last part of the loop allows for good resting places. The area also boasts a very large number of fiddleheads. Trail Condition: rocky, boulders near the top.
