The main features of this trail are the unique plants, crustaceans, and shorebirds in the ecosystem of beach and mud flats. The views of Grindstone Island and its lighthouse are quite scenic. Warning: At the rocky tip of the island, the tide comes in fast and furious, while it takes a lot longer for the mud flats to fill up. Therefore, it is best to start the trail when the tide goes out. If the tide then comes in at the tip of the peninsula, there is still sufficient time to safely finish the loop. Trail Condition: sandy beach, rocky, slippery, impassable at high tide. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
