Ross Island is the site of the earliest European settlers. It is uninhabited today except for some summer residents. The main attractions of this trail are its relative remoteness, the old lighthouse-which was decommissioned in 1964 and heavily damaged in a storm in 1976, and the marine life at the ponds and along the shores of the Bay of Fundy. Crossing The Thoroughfare will be wet even during favorable conditions. On the island, the trail crosses some marshy and swampy areas.
