One of the most beautiful rides anywhere in Colorado. Wildflowers in the spring and beautiful fall color. Best views are seen at the top of Paradise Divide and the upper portions of Washington Gulch Road and Gothic Road. All routes start and end at forest boundary so you must return over the same route. This description starts on Slate River Road, but you can also start on Gothic Road. Washington Gulch Road is less convenient because parking is a problem. From the start on Slate River Road, climb switchbacks to Paradise Divide, then descend through Paradise Basin and connect with F.S. 317 near Schofield Pass. Right on 317 goes downhill past Emerald Lake to Gothic F.S. Campground (fee area). You must turn around at a bridge after the campground.
