This immense, self-contained resort is larger than the combined acreage of the other three areas (Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, and Buttermilk) that make up the Aspen scene. Snowmass is big enough to be ranked among the five largest resorts in America, yet it’s difficult to separate it from Aspen. Most people who visit Snowmass Resort spend at least some time in the town of Aspen, and visitors to Aspen— even those addicted to Aspen Mountain—would be remiss in not spending a day or two at Snowmass. But make no mistake: One could visit Snowmass for a week and still not experience the entire gigantic extent of its six mountain sections. The most appealing feature of Snowmass is that virtually all of the accom-modations are ski-in/ski-out, in pocket-size developments nestled on the mountain’s lower flanks amid the cedars and aspens. This chapter contains a thorough description of the resort including how to get there, mountain statistics, trail profiles, lodging, dining, nightlife, and entertainment.
