Climb steadily for 15 miles, gaining thousands of feet in elevation, then drop in on Echo Lake at the base of Mount Evans. An intense, showcase ride for mountain-lovers. A bear cub weighing 200 pounds was trapped and killed on Squaw Pass near Mount Evans where a mountain park roadway is being built by workers from the Denver City park department. The carcass of a horse attracted the bear, which was caught in a trap set by a rancher. —“Colorado News Notes,” Ouray Herald, September 19, 1918 Here is a ride especially for those who like, or think they might like, climbing huge hills in the mountains. This ride is one of the biggest in the book for total elevation gain and features the biggest single sustained climb.
