This easy loop hike, used by joggers, dog walkers, bicyclers, and hikers, makes an upland circuit on the west side of the Overstreet Tract of Alfred P. Maclay State Gardens. The wide path leaves the Forest Meadows access and rambles through forest, coming near ravines that drop off toward Lake Overstreet. The trail varies little in elevation, making the trek easy for children or less-ambitious walkers. As you hike the trails with valid hopes of observing wildlife, especially deer, it’s ironic to think that the Lake Overstreet Tract of Maclay Gardens was a hunting plantation a century ago. Shooters used these very trails in search of game. Before that, the land was farmed, though it is hard to imagine now, as the entire route of the Ravine Trail is heavily forested. This tract has been under state ownership since the early 1990s.
