This fine loop, laid out by members of the local Florida Trail Association chapter, surveys the best of the Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park backcountry. First ramble along a stream before reaching Coon Bottom. Boardwalks aid your passage through this wild wetland. Return to hills, continuing to circle Coon Bottom, passing a huge beech tree before finishing the loop. Phipps Park is a large multiuse complex that not only offers multiuse trails—hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian—but also has organized team and individual facilities such as softball, tennis, and soccer. Luckily for us hikers, several miles of hiker-only trails traverse the varied natural terrain of the park. This hike encompasses two loops, which joined together make one larger circuit.
