This civilized seaside drive follows the “old” Island highway (19A) along the eastern shores of Vancouver Island for 130 kilometers (78 miles) and links together numerous picturesque coastal towns. Much of the drive is within sight of Georgia Strait, the long inland sea between Vancouver Island and mainland BC. Like the Okanagan, this area is well suited to leisurely and relaxing travel. The opportunities to go on side trips off the highway to islands and into the mountains is a major part of the drive’s attraction. Special attractions: Frequent ocean views, some of the best beaches in BC, well-developed tourist facilities and resorts, boating and fishing opportunities galore. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
