Paved highway from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to Skagway, Alaska; 159 kilometers (99 miles). The White Pass route follows an ancient travel corridor from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to the seaport of Skagway, Alaska. Along the way, it passes through spectacular alpine scenery, and at its end it encounters the breathtaking fjords of the Inside Passage. Thousands of people come each year to retrace the steps of gold-rush stampeders over the storied Chilkoot Pass, which has been preserved jointly by the Canadian and U. S. governments as an international historic park. Skagway and Carcross retain much of their frontier charm; clapboard houses and false-fronted businesses hark back to the rollicking boom years when gold filled the thoughts of every passerby. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
