A historic and scenic 22-mile paved and gravel high mountain route across Guanella Pass. Guanella Pass is a knock-your-socks-off scenic route. The road trails between 14,000-foot peaks over 11,669-foot Guanella Pass, through alpine vegetation and aspen groves. The two-lane road is paved or oiled for 10 miles and graveled the remaining 12. There are some turnouts for stopping. Sightseeing and recreation traffic can be fairly constant in summer, depending on weather conditions. Special attractions: Outstanding alpine scenery and far-ranging vistas, Mount Evans Wilderness, camping, fishing, cross-country skiing, hiking, historic buildings and mines, wildlife, and hunting. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
