A 31-mile paved highway through pine forest, riverine systems, and savannahs. Set in the pine forests and savannahs of the Florida panhandle, the Apalachee Savannahs Scenic Byway runs roughly parallel to the imposing and historic Apalachicola River. The two-lane highway is paved, and there are frequent access roads of graded dirt or clay that are sequentially numbered. Traffic is light and the highway is well-maintained. The landscape is composed of southern yellow pine forests, savannahs, cypress stands, and abundant wildflowers in season, such as milkworts, bachelor buttons, grass pinks, coreopsis, blazing stars, and black-eyed Susans.
