Starting high on a ridge and then descending into a steep ravine, this trail has a sense of being far away from the real world, yet it is only minutes from the suburban town of Vernon. The Rockville Spur is 4.1 miles long. At 0.5 mile you’ll reach a foot-bridge over the Tankerhoosen River. The trail continues through light forest for another 3.6 miles, ending just shy of downtown Rockville. If you have a chance, visit the Rockville Historic District, just a short distance from the end of the trail. The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The downtown area’s buildings offer myriad architectural styles from the Victorian era.
