A cousin to Birch Hill, the less often visited Two Rivers Ski Trails host quiet summer hikes through a breezy birch forest. The wide level hikes pass through giant birch groves on mowed grassy paths. Options range from 0.6- to 4.7-mile loops. The looping ski trails in the boreal forest behind the Two Rivers Elementary School are run by a collaborative effort between the Fairbanks North Star Borough and volunteers of the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks. Similar to Birch Hill, the trails are desirable winter ski routes that offer easy summer hiking. Though not nearly as prestigious or well maintained as Birch Hill, Two Rivers also doesn’t get much traffic and unless the school just concluded for the day you’re likely to be the only one playing on these trails. The system has several interconnecting loops that can be linked in figure-eight-style options. To create a longer route, always combine the trail before it.
